Wednesday, Day 4

Today we listened to several speakers in the morning. We also had an opportunity to tour the U.S. Capitol. The tour was very cool. The highlights of the day for me were in the evening. Dean Flagle gave a very funny yet informative talk about applying to colleges. Then we watched a movie and were able to relax. Here are some pictures from the Capitol.

Tuesday, Day 3

Today was very busy, but probably the most exciting and interesting day so far. We listened to Frank Lomonte speak in the morning, as well as a panel which included Chuck Todd, Chris Cillizza, and Liz Sidoti. All of these people are so experienced and successful in their journalistic fields, so of course I valued everything they said. We then visited the Smithsonian Museums. I visited the Air and Space Museum and the American History Museum, which I will post pictures of later. In the evening we listened to a Young Professionals Panel. The panel was composed of young journalists who I could really relate to. Finally, the day was capped off by the monument tour. The Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the White House are all such amazing places that truly are unique landmarks that help to make Washington, D.C. the special place that it is.

Day 2 (Speaker)

This evening I listened to Mr. Steve Klein give a presentation on “E-Journalism”. He said a lot of things that really made me think. For example, he explained that much of today’s news can be found on blogs. Bloggers are often times more knowledgable or passionate about the topics they write about. He also explained a lot about Twitter and its role as a vital news source. The things he said made me glad to have this blog, and made me want to create a Twitter account. These new mediums are becoming more and more a part of media. Mr. Klein also made me consider minoring in journalism and perhaps majoring in something else, so that I can be capable of specializing in a certain area of news. Overall he was a very informative speaker and I really liked what he had to say.

Today we visited the Newseum in Washington, D.C. There was so much to see there, from historic newspapers and spectacular photographs to 4-D movies. The best way to describe the experience is with pictures.

Sunday, Day 1

It’s my first day at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference and so far things are great. The campus is nice and we already enjoyed an excellend dinner. We listened to Ms. Sheila Brooks speak. She is a prominent journalist who is very passionate about what she does. She had many great things to say about the field of journalism and its future, and her story of resiliency was inspirational.

This is my first post on my blog. I will try to post daily about my experiences at the conference, and to include some pictures if possible.
